My motorhome trip in Normandy

For an unforgettable travel experience, many holidaymakers choose to travel by motorhome. Travelling by motorhome gives you the freedom to stop wherever you like on the road. Along the way, you will be able to enjoy nature and real flexibility in organising your trip. Tips to visit Normandy by motorhome.

My motorhome trip to Normandy: the must-sees

Arriving in Normandy by camper vanetang peche chateau

Located 460km from Calais, 600km from Brussels or 700km from the Netherlands, Normandy is an easily accessible region. Your motorhome holidays in Normandy start with beautiful, well-maintained roads.

From Ireland or the UK, the choice of coming by camper van is made easier by the ferry routes offered by Brittany Ferries, which land directly on the Normandy coast.

To reach the south of La Manche from Paris, take the A13 motorway to Caen and then the free A84 to Avranches. Take exit 37 for Granville and it’s just 20 minutes to the Château de Lez-Eaux campsite. The entrance is on the main D973 road.

Mont Saint Michel by motorhome: all the practical information

Once you have settled comfortably into your green space in the grounds of Château de Lez-Eaux, you are only a 40-minute drive from Mont Saint-Michel and the surrounding historic sites.Manche nord sud vacances camping combi

The area around this amazing site has been designed to simplify access. When you arrive in Beauvoir by motorhome, simply follow the signs to the P8 car park, one of the service areas closest to Mont Saint-Michel.

The price of parking depends on how long you stay on the site and includes the shuttle bus journey to the foot of the Mont Saint Michel. After a few minutes’ walk from the car park, you will find a toilet block and a tourist information desk right next to the shuttle departure point.

Whether you are spending a few hours or a whole day, the reception at camping Château de Lez-Eaux will help you organise your getaway. You can pick up your tickets or book your guided tour of the bay on site.

Visit Granville and the surroundings beaches with your motorhome or converted van

During your stay in Normandy with your camper van, Granville and his surroundings are the musts see.  You’ll find motorhome parks ideally located for starting your visits on foot:

  • 4, rue du Roc in Granville, to discover the Old Town and magnificent views of Granville and its bay from the cliffs. The Neva electric shuttles stop nearby and can also take you free of charge around the town and to the surrounding seaside resorts (Donville les bains and Saint-pair-sur-Mer).
  • Boulevard Louis Dior, for access to the museum and the Dior garden, the car park has no access limit.
  • Près de la mini-ferme au parc du Val-es-fleur, proche du centre-ville de Granville, le parking n’a pas d’accès limité
  • Saint-Pair-sur-Mer municipal service area, allowing you to discover the resort’s seaside villas and the seaside promenade.
  • Rue de la plage in the seaside resort of Donville les bains, if you want to swim or spend a pleasant moment at the beach, the car park has unlimited access.
  • Rue des Sapins in Jullouville les pins, in the car park at the Place du Marché, where you can park freely outside market days. Ideal for a drink by the sea or to pick up some lovely holiday souvenirs.
  • A final example from this non-exhaustive list would be the car park at the Cabane Vauban. It’s just a few hundred metres from one of the best vantage points for a spectacular sunset near Mont Saint-Michel.

Utah Beach and the Landing beaches

Utah Beach, one of the five D-Day beaches in Normandy, was the scene of the landing of American troops on the 6th of June 1944. Today, this poignant Norman place of remembrance is home to remnants of the fighting and a museum retracing the history of D-Day.

For a total immersion in the history of the Second World War, do not miss the Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg.

A visit to Utah Beach or its little sister Omaha Beach means travelling back in time, remembering the heroes and enjoying the magnificent scenery.

Tips: ideal season: spring/autumn, car hire recommended, allow plenty of time, comfortable shoes, camera essential.

During your visit, do not forget to take a stroll through the Pays d’Auge, the Pointe du Hoc, Veules les Roses or Saint Valery en Caux and its many historic sites.

Comfort pitches

The slightly larger Comfort pitches give you more freedom to arrange your space. Ideal for a stay of several days, you can easily park your caravan or motorhome, open your awning and set up your table and chairs as you wish.
